Nigerian Players' Watch: Iheanacho, Onazi score, Onyekuru, Iwobi get wins

Several Nigerian players were in action for their respective clubs this midweek.

This is a review of how they played.

England

We start from England where Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goal for Leicester City in their 3-1 win over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup. Iheanacho also grabbed an assist for Leicester City.

Alex Iwobi featured for Arsenal in their 2-1 win over Norwich in the Carabao Cup. Iwobi played the whole 90 minutes plus extra-time before he was subbed.

 

Nigerian-born Chuba Akpom made his first appearance for Arsenal this season coming on in as a second-half substitute.

 

Nigerian-born defender Tosin Adarabioyo played 90 minutes in Manchester City’s penalty shoot-out 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup. He was replaced in the 90th minute by John Stones.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) target Tammy Abraham came on as a second-half substitute in Swansea’s 2-0 home loss to Manchester United also in the Carabao Cup.

Scotland

Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose played 90 minutes for Hibernian in their 1-0 win over Hearts in the Scottish Premier League on Tuesday. 

Belgium

In-form Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru played 90 minutes in Anderlecht’s 2-0 win over Zulte-Waregem but could not continue his goal scoring form.

 

His compatriot Peter Olayinka also played 90 minutes in the game but for Zulte-Waregem.

Dennis Bonaventure played the whole of the second half in Club Brugge’s 2-0 defeat to Genk.

Nigerian striker Joseph Akpala was on for 90 minutes in Oostende’s in their 3-0 win over Sporting Charleroi on Tuesday.

Switzerland

Former MFM FC striker Stephen Odey was a 73rd-minute in FC Zurich’s 4-1 win over FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy in the Swiss Cup game.

Turkey

Midfielder Ogenyi Onazi was among the goals in Trabzonspor’s 6-0 win over Corum Belediyespor in the Turkish Cup. He netted in the 74th minute and also grabbed an assist.

 

Nigerian striker Emem Eduok was on for the whole 90 minutes in Kasimpasa’s 5-1 win over Nigde Belediyespor in a Turkish Cup game.

France

Super Eagles on-form defender Chidozie Awaziem played 90 minutes in Nantes 3-1 loss at Tours FC.

Italy

Nigerian forward Orji Okonkwo came on in the 80th minute but could not help Bologna who lost 2- at home to Lazio.

Sadiq Umar, on-loan from Roma could only play 90 minutes in Torino’s 3-0 loss to Fiorentina.

Netherlands

Former Golden Eaglets star Kelechi Nwakali played 88 minutes in VVV Venlo’s 3-1 win over Utrecht.
