Robbers kill four during banks raid in Ekiti
Dare-devil armed robbers on Thursday evening attacked two new generation banks in Otun Ekiti, Moba Council of Ekiti State, killing four people, while many sustained various degree of gunshot wounds.
The gory incident that turned the peaceful community of Otun-Ekiti into mournful mood saw many crying over the manner the victims were killed.
One of the victims, a security man with one of the banks, was said to be planning to wed next week, while his wife is said to be heavily pregnant.
The suspected armed robbers, who drove into the town around 6pm, were said to have positioned themselves at strategic locations before attacking the banks with guns and other explosive devices.
Apart from the guard, who was first shot at the entrance of the bank, the branch manger of the other bank and a cashier were also killed.
The palace of the monarch, Oba Adedapo Popoola, was not also spared, as his guard, who rushed to lock the gate few meters to the banks, was also shot at a close range and died immediately.
Oba Popoola, who narrated the incident, which he described as the first time in the history of the town, said: “Around 6pm on Thursday evening, some chiefs were with me relaxing when we heard a loud bang.
“We thought it was a fire cracker and dismissed it as one of those things to expect as Xmas was approaching. But with staccato of gunshots that was coming unabated, we knew something strange has entered the town.
“My security man that ran to the gate to close it was gunned down. We never thought of armed robbers; we thought Boko Haram mercenaries had entered the town.
