18-year-old charged with stealing phones
Eighteen-year-old Tope Ojo yesterday appeared at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State for alleged theft of three phones, valued at N20,000.
Ojo, of unknown address, is facing a charge of stealing.
Police prosecutor Monica Ikebuilo alleged that the accused committed the offence on October 14 at Atikankan Street, Ado-Ekiti.
She alleged that the accused went to the shop of Yahaya Saadi, and stole a Nokia phone, valued at N8,000, and two Itel phones, valued at N12,000.
The prosecutor said the accused had been stealing phones in that area, and was caught by the complainant and his friends.
She said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
Ikebuilo urged the court to adjourn the case, to enable her study the case file and assemble witnesses.
Counsel to the accused Mr. Simeon Ojo requested the court to grant his client bail, promising he will not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Omolola Akosile, granted the accused bail at N20,000 with two sureties, and adjourned the case till November 9 for hearing.
