Santi Cazorla's foot was almost amputated after he contracted a bacterial infection.

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla who has been out for over a year has revealed that he almost lost his foot because of a bacterial infection.

Carzola has been out of action since October 2016 because of Achilles tendon injury which has required multiple surgeries.

The multiple operations on his foot have resulted in the loss of eight centimeters from the tendon in his right ankle.

Speaking in a recent interview, the 32-year-old revealed that during these operations, he contracted a life-threatening bacterial infection which almost led to the amputation of his foot.

The Spanish midfielder revealed to Marca that doctors believe he is lucky to be able to walk again.

Carzola is currently in his hometown of Salamanca where he is continuing his rehabilitation and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects the midfielder to be back in the team as early as January.

The first signs are positive, but still he has not played for one and a half years,” Wenger recently said.

“He is not in full training yet, he needs a few games with the reserve team. So I think if all goes well, it will be after Christmas.”
