Alex Iwobi & Jay Ajayi: Arsenal midfielder, NFL star show their Nigerian sides in new Rapid Fire video

Iwobi and Ajayi are both of Nigerian descent and are also British citizens.

Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi and NFL star Jay Ajayi showed that they are Nigerians to the core in a new Rapid Fire episode-a show on Arsenal’s Youtube page.

 

Iwobi and Ajayi are both of Nigerian descent and are also British citizens but in their Rapid Fire video, the sports stars showed that they are Nigerians to the core.

Iwobi was born in Nigeria before moving to London with his parents when he was four while Ajayi, full name Oluwadamilola Jonathan Ajayi is born to Nigerian parents.

Iwobi and Ajayi are here for Pounded Yam

In this episode, both stars admitted to their love for Nigerian dish Pounded Yam. It was Ajayi who asked Iwobi the food he would eat before a game and it wouldn’t affect his performance.

“Bro you know about Pounded Yam,” Iwobi asked as the Philadelphia Eagles star went in for a knuckle with the Arsenal player in agreement.

“I won’t lie though, there is no way you can eat it and it won’t affect you cause you eat it, you go into sleep,” Ajai said.

 

Also in the Rapid Fire episode, Iwobi asked Ajayi which he preferred between Nigerian, American and English dishes.

“Naija food now, you gat to have the jollof,” Ajay said as Iwobi gave him the knuckle in agreement.

Rapid Fire is a programme on Arsenal’s Youtube page where two people sit and throw questions at each other.

Ajayi is fresh off winning the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in February.

The 24-year-old who is an Arsenal fan revealed that the best part about winning the Super Bowl was seeing his parents after the game.

“It was intense, they were jumping up and down, we ran and hugged, then the confetti was falling down,” Ajay said. 

Iwobi, however, admitted that he didn’t watch the Super Bowl and that he wouldn't last 10 minutes in an American football game.

Ajayi also revealed that the first thing he did after winning the Super Bowl was Facetime a former teammates Jarvis Landry whom he played with at Miami Dolphins.

Iwobi also talked about his debut for Nigeria; “When I made my debut for Nigeria I couldn't believe it that I’m actually representing a country. It was an amazing experience for me,” he said.

The Super Eagles star, however, admitted that he is not very familiar with the Nigerian national anthem.

“I know it but I don’t know it well and before a match when the camera comes on me I know what to say,” Iwobi said.

Iwobi was asked about his goal against Zambia in October 2017 which sealed Nigeria’s qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and he revealed that he almost cried when he saw his parents in the stands while celebrating the goal.

Their connection to Arsenal was also discussed in the video as Ajayi chose Thierry Henry over Dennis Bergkamp.

His favourite Arsenal moments as a fan were when they won the double and finished a full season unbeaten in the Premier League.

Ajayi also chose his favourIte Arsenal players which includes Iwobi, Hector Bellerin and Jack Wilshere.
