Ayodeji Olarinoye: FIFA appoint Nigerian doctor as Doping Control Officer

Ayodeji Olarinoye becomes the first Nigerian to join FIFA's Doping Control unit.

World football governing body FIFA have appointed Nigerian doctor Ayodeji Olarinoye as a Doping Control Officer.

Ayodeji Olarinoye is a medical graduate of the University of Ilorin and following his appointment, he becomes Nigeria’s first Doping Control Officer in FIFA.

Olarinoye made his name as the team doctor for the 2013 and 2015 victorious Golden Eaglets teams that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

According to a report by the Punch, Olarinoye is a well renowned medical specialist as he is a member of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine as well as the American College of Sports Medicine.

Olarinoye will henceforth join up a team of FIFA medical officials who will attend several pieces of training on anti-doping and as well have a duty to ensure a healthy and safe participation in football by those involved.

The university’s bulletin stated that Dr Olarinoye was honored in 2015 by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) for the dedication he showed during his duty.

The statement said, “Dr Olarinoye was honoured in 2015 by the Nigeria Medical Association for his dedication to duty and special interest in the field of Sports Medicine.”

 

The university report further stated that he is running a programme in sports and exercise medicine.

“He is currently running a programme in Sports and Exercise Medicine in Cardiff, U.K., “ the bulletin stated.

Dr Olarinoye is a 38-year-old  medical doctor whose father is Dr Steve Olarinoye the former head of the international department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
