Champions League: Guardiola 'haters' in full swing on Twitter, jokes also for Messi, Barcelona
Twitter reactions to Tuesday April 10 Champions League games and results.
Pep Guardiola ‘haters’ were in full swing on Twitter following Manchester City defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday, April 10 while Lionel Messi and Barcelona were also the butts of the jokes.
Guardiola was sent to the stands as his City side were beaten 2-1 at home to Liverpool while Barcelona’s 4-1 first-leg lead over Roma was wiped off with a 3-0 loss in the second leg.
As usual, conversations around the two Champions League games dominated Twitter. Champions League and Barcelona were top of the trends on Twitter Nigeria while items like ‘#PepFraud’ ‘Fraudiola’ were heavily used.
Critics came for Guardiola
Guardiola was heavily bashed after the win as critics-haters as some may call it- continued to discredit him for failing yet again to win the Champions League without having Messi in his team.
His Manchester City side were beaten home away by Liverpool in the quarter-final of the Champions League giving his critics the premise to go on full swing.
“Pep Guardiola's career is built on holding SIGINIFICANT advantages. At Barcelona, he had Messi. At Bayern, he took the best players from the opposition, At Man City, he has spent £200m more than ANY manager in the league. The most OVERRRATED manager in history,” a known Guardiola ‘hater’ on Twitter Nigeria Biola Kazeem tweeted.
“If Manchester City fail to win the Champions League this season, Pep Guardiola will have won the same amount of trophies at Manchester City as Manuel Pellegrini did in his first 2 seasons. Despite Pep spending £262m more on players!” another user pointed out.
“Pep Guardiola hasn't reached a Champions League final since 2010/11. He's spent approximately £750m on transfers then!,” another user wrote on Twitter.
“Just reading tweets on Pep Guardiola and not surprised that hardly any journalist has tweeted anything critical about the bald fraud. Had it been Mourinho, twitter wld have been on a meltdown. This is why u have no respect 4 football journalists... No objectivity, just bias,” another user said.
“Will say it before and will say it again. In terms of English football, Sir Alex Ferguson laid down a marker. Arsene Wenger and José Mourinho revolutionized it. Pep Guardiola? Absolutely no flippin way,” another user wrote.
Jokes on Messi and Barcelona
As Guardiola was getting it, his former club Barcelona were also in for a long night on Twitter.
Following their 3-0 loss to Roma to crash out of the Champions League even Messi was not left out of the jokes.
“Goals scored when their teams are losing in the Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo - 22 Lionel Messi - 4,” a account pointed out.
“Bants asides, you cant keep calling Lionel Messi the GOAT when he has so much short comings. Too many boxes he’s not ticked in his career,” a user wrote.
“Don't let Barca blowing a 4-1 lead over Roma distract you from the fact that Messi blew a 4-1 Ballon d'Or lead over Ronaldo,” another Twitter user said.
“Barcelona fans have piped up about every teammate of Messi's this season, lauding them while the team has been going well but the instant they've lost to Roma it's not Messi's fault it's either his teammates or Valverde's. Sorry, can't have it both ways. They choked a 4-1 lead,” a Twitter user said.
“Somebody is saying if these Romans were able to kill Jesus Christ, who is Lionel Messi,” another person added.
“Ronaldo Went to Italy and was given a Standing Ovation, Messi went to Italy and got a Standing Eviction,” another person said.
Rival fans had a good night making fun of Barcelona too following their exit from the Champions League.
“Those Barcelona players should not come back to Spain again ooo. How would you jeopardize 4 - 1 lead just like that when you are not Chelsea or Arsenal. They should just be sleeping at Pope's house,” a Twitter user said.
