It has taken it a step further posting over 5billion views on Luis Fonsi's official YouTube page to become the most viewed music video of all time. In the process, it has usurped previous YouTube records held by Wiz Khalifa's 'See you again'.
Here are 5 records broken by Despacito's feat
1. Most-Viewed Video Of All Time
On Friday, “Despacito” blew right past Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again’ to become the most viewed video of all time on YouTube. Previously, the honor had belonged to Psy's 'Gangnam Style' who held down the position for five years with 'See you Again' going past it earlier this year with 3.8 Billion views. The sole honour now belongs to Despacito.
2. Fastest to hit 2 Billion views
According to statistics made available by YouTube, the video was the fastest video to ever hit the two billion views mark in the history of the video site and also succeeded in rising to two and a half billion inn barely a month.
3. Also First To Hit 3 Billion
The video was also the fastest to hit the three billion views mark, becoming only the second video to ever attain that number. But while 'See you again' took three years, Despacito hit the mark in a year.
4. It is the most-liked in YouTube history
In addition to being the most-watched video of all time, “Despacito” is now also the most-liked item available on the site as well, according to a release shared by the company itself. The video has been liked over 27 million times ahead of 'See you again' which has 19 million likes.
5. It is also the video with the most 'thumbs down' on the site
Despacito may be breaking all the records but not all of them are good. Outside being the most liked video, it has also earned the most thumbs down click with over 3 million people showing that not everyone in the world is caught in the Latino bug.
It will be recalled that 'Despacito' also tied Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's 'One sweet day' for the most weeks at No 1 in the Hot 100's charts' 59 year history. In a world, where the population is approximately 8 billion, this is a remarkable feat for the artists that might take a long time to equal.
