Mike Ezuruonye: "I want people to start fighting for marriages" - Actor on why he made "Divorce Not Allowed"
"I want people to start fighting for their marriages again in order for us to have a better world" - Mike Ezuruonye.
Mike Ezuruonye has explained why he decided to make new comedy film, "Divorce Not Allowed."
According to the filmmaker, the film is to encourage people to fight for their marriages.
"Marriages continue to crash today because many people give up too easily on their marriages. People have simply stopped fighting for their marriages and when you fail to fight for what you believe in, you have lost the fight already," he said in a statement.
"That's because you didn't even make the effort. I made the movie 'Divorce Not Allowed' because I want people to start fighting for their marriages again in order for us to have a better world."
The movie stars Nollywood actors such as Bolanle Ninalowo, Iyabo Ojo, Angela Okorie, Eniola Badmus, Salami Rotimi and Ezuruonye.
"Divorce Not Allowed" explores issues faced by young couples in marriages and how their resolutions sometimes threaten to shake the foundation of their love.
Speaking to Pulse Nigeria in 2017, Mike Ezuruonye said that he isn't a fan of buffoonery, so he is making a different kind of comedy.
"I'm not a fan of buffoonery. Even if it's comedy, it has to have a message to it, which is what we did with "Divorce? Not Allowed."
"Divorce not Allowed" comes after Ezuruonye's self-produced comedy movie "Brother Jekwu," which reportedly grossed 20 million naira in 10 days.
Ezuruonye's directorial debut comes 15 years after he made his acting debut.
"Divorce Not Allowed" debuts in cinemas on April 13, 2018.
