Police nab drivers for allegedly defiling, robbing passenger
The police have arrested two taxi drivers for allegedly defiling and robbing a female passenger in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The suspects, Nathan Ogbara, 33 and Justin Amos, 32, were arrested at Tombia roundabout, Yenagoa, while fleeing.
Police spokesman Asinim Butswat said the victim’s phone was recovered from the suspects.
He said: “On April 1, about 0200hrs, police were alerted that a girl was sexually- assaulted and her phone stolen by two men operating taxis opposite Jubilee Hotel, Kpansia, Yenagoa.
“The victim reported that she contacted Ogbara, a taxi driver, to take her to her home at Agudama Epie, after she participated in a dance competition at a car wash.
“The suspect called Amos, also a taxi driver, to join him. Along the road, opposite Jubilee Hotel, the suspects parked their cabs, dragged the girl to a nearby bush and defiled her. They stole her phone and zoomed off towards Tombia roundabout.
“A police patrol team later arrested the suspects and recovered the phone. Their cabs have been impounded and investigation is on.
“In a bid to rid Bayelsa State of criminals, the Command Strike Force Team and other tactical teams introduced by Police Commissioner Don Awunah have been performing.
“The public is advised to report crimes to the police. The command is determined to rid the state of criminals.”
