‘Don’t seek Bello’s disqualification’

 James Azania

The Media and Publicity Committee of the Bello/Onoja Governorship Campaign Council yesterday discarded the efforts of Mrs. Natasha Akpoti of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) seeking the disqualification of Governor Yahaya Bello.

Bello is seeking a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Natasha, who is in court to challenge the invalidation of her candidature as the governorship candidate of the SDP, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking Bello’s disqualification over allegation of double registration.

Spokesman for the APC governorship campaigns, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in a reaction yesterday in Lokoja, said the organisation chose not to join words with Natasha.

He described the suit as a waste of time and an effort in futility.

Said he: “The Bello/Onoja Governorship Campaign Organisation has refused to join issues with the attention seeking woman. The suit is another waste of time and resources by the disqualified SDP governorship aspirant.

“She is on a mission that cannot see the light of the day. She is a lawyer, and she is asking the court to disqualify a candidate based on mere allegation that was not determined to be true by any competent court of jurisdiction.

“It is also strange for a lawyer to ask the court to act over an allegation that she also prayed the court to compel INEC to investigate. Nothing typifies confusion the more.”
