By Uja Emmanuel , Makurdi

The chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state Chief Abba Yaro has debunked claims in some quarters that he acquired a house illegally.

Reacting to media reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seized a house located at Judges’ quarters in Makurdi belonging to him, the APC helmsman said there was no truth in the allegation.

EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu, at an interaction with journalists in Makurdi, denied the reports, stating that agency was only investigating the case.

The APC chair, who spoke to our correspondent, presented several documents, including Deeds of Assignment between the owner of the house Chief Terlumun Jonathan Akputu (assignor) and himself(assignee) as well as the Certificate of Occupancy.

The deed was signed by both parties in the presence of a legal practitioner Amaechi and the APC chair’s wife Dr (Mrs.) Margaret Abba Yaro.

It dated 4th May, 2018 with the accompanying affidavit of ownership and transfer deposed at the Benue State High Court on 17th May, 2018.

The documents reads: “Whereas the assignor is the beneficial title holder of all that developed property known as plot No. 2441 Gboko Road Cadastral Zone MKD04 Gboko Road District covering an area of 1027.44m square situated at Judges Quarters Gboko Road District, Makurdi which is covered by Certificate of Occupancy No. 80022333S00200G22302-01 with a file No. BN22786 having been allocated same by the Benue State government.

Yaro said: “I paid for the house on installment until I completed the payment. So you can see with all these documents that I genuinely acquired the house contrary to claims that it was gotten illegally.”
