Two Nigeria Women's Pro League Ani Ekong and Saturday Glory killed in a road accident in Uyo

The Police Machine players were hit by an SUV that lost control in Uyo.

Two Nigeria Women's Pro League players Ani Ekong and Saturday Glory were on Tuesday, October 1 killed in a road accident that happened in Uyo. 

Ekong and Glory, Pulse Sports understand died after an SUV lost control and hit them along Stadium Road in Uyo. 

A third player Monica Anthony remains in critical condition from injuries sustained from the accident while three other players have also been hospitalised. 

The six players are on the books of Nigeria Women's Pro League side Police Machine who were preparing for the playoffs in Lokoja to get promotion to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL)- Nigeria's premier women’s division. 

The Police Machine were scheduled to face Pelican Stars, Moje Queens FC and Olori Babes in the playoffs.

It is with great sadness that we receive the news of the death of two young players of Pro-League side Police Machine FC,” Aisha Falode, the chairperson of the NWFL said in a statement.

We are all devastated at this tragic passing of Glory Saturday and Aniebet Ekong. The thoughts of everyone at the NWFL are with the families of the deceased, their friends, teammates, the management and everyone connected to the club at this difficult period.”
