Ondo 2020: APC accuses Jegede of overseeing white elephant projects

By Osagie Otabor, Akure

The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo has accused candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede of overseeing white elephant projects during the administration of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

It was reacting to Jegede’s comments that the Ore interchange flyover was a phoney project by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Director, Media and Publicity of the Ondo APC, Mr. Steve Otaloro, in a statement, said the Ore interchange bridge was to reduce traffic lockdown and the rate of vehicular accidents which claimed lives around the area.

APC urged Jegede to do his findings before committing himself to wild submissions.

He said it was pitiable for Jegede to condemn the Ore interchange bridge when it was he who chaired the Committee that recommended construction of the Dome but terminated construction of the 10,000-seater New Stadium, Owena Water reticulation projects and several other projects  embarked on by the administration of late Dr. Olusegun Agagu.

The party recalled Jegede was the Chairman of the State Tenders Board during Mimiko’s administration but the Board was never productive in anyway.

It said: “The Ore town interchange bridge and the Ondo Lynl industrial hubs, the both, at Ore town are projects that would touch the lives of the people of the state and the immidiate community of location based on the frequency of use, economic transactions and landmark infrastructure more than a Dome that does not touch the life of the people in much productive way as mentioned herein.

“While we wish the PDP candidate well in his mission to contest the governorship seat of the state, as that was the basis for his attack on the person of the governor and the present administration, we should be quick to remind him that he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones as records of the activities of the government he served for eight years and in which he played prominent roles went as far as to commit the state to a huge debt of over 220 billion naira.

“As well, there was the seven months salary arrears of the civil servants- those ignominious and callous acts are still fresh in the mind of the people.

“The present path of recovery, growth and infrastructural development of the state that Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has started, would not be allowed to be derailed by the same people who put us into such mess as rightly highlighted herein, Godwilling.”
