The Team B of the Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the final of the 2017 WAFU Cup after beating the Republic of Benin.

A Rabiu Ali first-half goal was enough for Nigeria to beat the Republic of Benin at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in Ghana to progress to their third final of the WAFU Cup.

Ali’s goal came in the 10th minute from a counter-attack move with Anthony Okpotu playing in the Kano Pillars player who showed composure to slot past the Republic of Benin goalkeeper.

John Friday's volley from ten yards from a Moses Okoro cross was saved on the half-hour mark before the Béninois were reduced to ten men.

The Republic of Benin went into halftime a goal and a man down following Marcellin Koukpo’s second yellow card.

The Béninois worked very hard in the second half and nearly found an equaliser just in the 52nd minute through Jules Elegbede who could only blaze over from close range.

Friday, Peter Moses and Afeez Aremu all had chances to double Nigeria’s lead but the Béninois held on to lose by just a goal.

This will be Nigeria’s third WAFU Cup final following their appearances in 2010 and 2011 both on home soil.

Nigeria won the final in 2010, beating Senegal 2-0 to take home the trophy before losing 3-2 to Togo.

The Super Eagles Team B will face defending champions Ghana whom they beat 2-0 in the final group game of the 2017 competition.

Ghana who are also the host of the 2017 competition defeated Niger 2-0 to progress to the final.
