Violation of street begging: Hisbah arrests 166 beggars

Over 166 beggars were arrested at various locations, within the municipality by the Kano State Hisbah Board for allegedly violating the law banning street begging in the State.

An official of the Board’s Anti-begging Unit, Mallam Dahiru Mohammed, who disclosed the statistics to newsmen in Kano, noted that 58 of those arrested were children, while 100 of them were Adults.

Also, he disclosed that 117 of them hail from Kano, while the remaining 41 hail from Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Plateau, Niger and Taraba States.

According to Mohammed, the raids were carried out at some locations, within the metropolis, including Bompai road, Bank road, Kabuga, Ibrahim Taiwo road, State Road and the Railway Station.

Furthermore, he said the Board released some of the beggars, who had mental disorder, while others from neighbouring States were taken back to their respective Local Government Areas.
