William Troost-Ekong: Super Eagles defender admits there is pressure that comes with playing for Nigeria

The Bursaspor defender reveals that playing for the Super Eagles has changed his life.

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has admitted that there is a certain pressure that comes with playing for Nigeria.

Troost-Ekong was born in Netherlands and played for their youth teams before switching his allegiance to Nigeria.

The defender has since become a full-time Nigeria international and played in all of the Super Eagles games so far of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He also represented Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio where he won bronze in the football event with the Dream Team.

In a recent interview, the Bursaspor defender has revealed that playing for the Super Eagles has changed his life and that he has improved as a player because of the pressure that comes with representing Nigeria.

“The experience garnered playing for the Super Eagles has been life-changing for me,” the 24-year-old told the official website of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

 

Facing some of the best forwards in Africa, whilst having to perform and deliver for such a football-loving nation like Nigeria is a pressure that improves you as a player.

“I enjoy being with the team and working with quality players. Playing alongside someone like Leon Balogun with his quality has definitely helped, but I would feel just as comfortable playing next to anyone now.”

For the World Cup, Troost-Ekong believes that the Super Eagles can get to the knock-out stages and revealed that he is not scared of any team.
