5 things we remember about 1st season of Big Brother Nigeria

From the love triangles to the twists, here are five things we remember about the 2006 edition of Big Brother Nigeria.

The Big Brother reality show involves a group of strangers sharing a camera-filled house for about 12 weeks.

Every of their move is monitored and broadcast 24 hours a day to millions of viewers via a dedicated TV channel.

The first season of the Nigerian version aired in 2006, and was known as Big Brother Nigeria. In 2017, the show returned for a second season, this time around, as Big Brother Naija.

The third season of the show recently came to an end with 23-year-old Miracle as the winner.

As fans of the show are still talking about the dramatic season, Pulse Movies has put together five things we remember about the first season.

1. Big Brother Nigeria kicked off on March 5, 2006, with 12 original housemates; Ify, Ebuka, Chinedu, Francisca, Gideon, Helen, Ichemeta, Ify, Joan, Joseph, Maureen and Yinka.

The season which came to an end on June 4, 2006, aired on DStv Channel 37.

2. The season wasn't without twists

The season kicked off with 12 contestants battling for the grand prize. But three weeks into the season, two new contestants, Katung and Sandy, were introduced.

On day 79, Biggie cancelled the scheduled nominations and tricked the housemates into thinking that they would be evicted based on their task performances.

Meanwhile, that was the final week and viewers were already voting for their winner.

3. The Relationships

From Joan and Chinedu to Joseph and Maureen, from Ebuka, Francisca and Helen to Ify and Katung, the season wasn't without relationships and love triangles.

4. The host and performances

The season was hosted by Nigerian OAP Olisa Adibua and Nigerian actress, Michelle Dede.

The season saw weekly performances from stars such as Styl Plus, D’banj, Sir Shina Peters and Onyeka Onwenu.

5. The winner

The finalists for the season were Francisca, Ify, Katung and Sandy. During the grand finale, Sandy was the first finalist to be evicted.

She was followed by Ify, and then Francisca. A then 26-year-old Katung was announced the winner of the $100,000 cash prize.
