A host of Nigerian forwards were on fire in Europe over the weekend which saw Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Chukwueze and Paul Onuachu scored for their respective clubs.
It wasn’t just the forwards who were the Nigerian players in action all over the world this weekend. We review the performances of Nigerian players abroad.
In England
Super Eagles forward Isaac Success made another start and played the whole 90 minutes as Watford managed a 1-1 draw away at Southampton.
Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action for Leicester City who could only get a point after their goalless draw at home against Burnley. Ndidi played the whole 90 minutes while Iheanacho came on in the second half.
Alex Iwobi played only the first half as Arsenal were frustrated at home by Wolverhampton Wanderers who held the Gunners to a 1-1 draw.
In the Championship
Semi Ajayi played the whole 90 minutes for Rotherham who managed to get a 1-1 draw away at Blackburn. Although a defender by trade, Ajayi played as a defensive midfielder in the game.
Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo got a start as Stoke City got a goalless draw away at Nottingham Forest.
In Spain
Super Eagles forward Moses Simon was a second-half substitute as Levante were beaten 3-1 by Real Sociedad in a La Liga game.
At the Estadi Montilivi, Kenneth Omeruo played the whole 90 minutes as visitors Leganes played out a goalless draw against Girona.
Former Flying Eagles winger and Super Eagles new boy Samuel Chukwueze scored his first La Liga goal for Villarreal in their 2-2 draw away at Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
In Switzerland
Former MFM FC striker Stephen Odey had 50 minutes of action as FC Zurich lost 1-2 at home to Sion in a Swiss League match.
In France
Super Eagles forward Samuel Kalu got another start as Bordeaux were held to a goalless draw at home to Caen in a Ligue 1 clash. He was taken off in the second half.
In Belgium
Striker Imoh Ezekiel played just a few minutes as Kortrijk were beaten 2-0 at home by Standard Liege. His compatriot Uche Agbo was a halftime substitute for Liege.
Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti was on for 89 minutes as Gent were beaten 2-0 away at Anderlecht.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen played the whole 90 minutes for Sporting Charleroi who were beaten 2-1 by Club Brugge.
In Denmark
Onuachu continued his good form so far this season with a goal, his ninth of the season for FC Midtjylland who beat Vejle Boldklub 5-0 on Sunday in the Danish Superliga.
In Norway
Nigerian forward Samuel Adegbenro scored in his second consecutive game for newly crowned Norwegian champions Rosenborg who got a 1-0 win away at IK Start 1-0 to continue their impressive Eliteserien campaign .
Nigerian midfielder Ifeanyi Mathew played the whole 90 minutes for Lillestrom who managed a 2-2 draw away at Stromsgodset.
In Germany
Super Eagles left-back Jamilu Collins played the full 90 minutes as Paderborn played out an entertaining 4-4 draw at home to Holstein Kiel in the 2 Bundesliga.
In Italy
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina played the full 90 minutes for Torino who were beaten 2-1 at home to Parma.
Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi scored his first goal of the season in Chievo’s 2-2 draw with Bologna in Sunday’s Italian Serie A encounter.
In Portugal
Mikel Agu was on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes as Vitoria Setubal beat Feirense 2-1 at home.
In Turkey
Onyekuru grabbed a brace for Galatasaray in their 3-0 thrashing of Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig.
It was a torrid day in the office for Ogenyi Onazi who played the whole 90 minutes a Trabzonspor were thrashed 5-0 away at Yeni Malatyaspor.
His compatriot and teammate Anthony Nwakaeme was also in action in the game.
In Israel
Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu was on for 90 minutes as Hapoel Be’er Sheva got a 3-1 away win against Beitar Jerusalem.
His compatriot Aaron Samuel was on from the start for Beitar Jerusalem but was taken off in the second half.
