Super Falcons boss Dennerby says Nigeria will not underestimate Equatorial Guinea in AWCON clash
Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby wants his team to convert their chances when they face Equatorial Guinea.
Super Falcons boss Thomas Dennerby has stated that Nigeria will not underestimate Equatorial Guinea when both sides meet in their final group game of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON).
The Super Falcons won their second group game against Zambia 4-0 while Equatorial Guinea lost out 7-1 to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa.
The two sides are set to meet with the Super Falcons eyeing a spot in the semi-finals of the competition while Equatorial Guinea is out of the competition regardless of the result as they lost their opening two games.
Equatorial Guinea has conceded 12 goals in the competition, seven against South Africa and five against the Shepolopolo of Zambia.
Dennerby, however, is not aiming to take the game for granted as he wants his team to produce their best performance in the encounter.
Dennerby on Nigeria vs Equatorial Guinea
Speaking in the pre-match press conference organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dennerby made his intentions about the game known.
He said, “We hope to keep getting better and better. We hope to have our best performance so far tomorrow (Saturday).”
Dennerby who criticised the Super Falcons for missing chances in their win against Zambia stated that no changes will be made to the team.
He said, “We are not doing any changes. We are working on as we have done from the beginning. Going to training sessions to prepare the team, have pre/post match meetings and watch videos of the others, so we know how to play and so on.”
Veteran midfielder Rita Chikwelu who was at the press conference with Dennerby stated that they just want to win and progress to the next round.
She said, “We are ready to pick the maximum points against Equatorial Guinea on Saturday.”

The Super Falcons of Nigeria take on Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, November 24 at the Robert Mensah Stadium, Cape Coast Kick off 4 pm same time Zambia face off with South Africa.
