Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka says it will be difficult to choose between England and Nigeria as reports from England say NFF are trying to get him
The NFF are reportedly ready to persuade the player to commit his international future to Nigeria.
Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka has revealed that it will be difficult for him to choose between England and Nigeria.
Saka who has been one of the revelations in the Premier League in his breakthrough season at Arsenal is born to Nigerian parents in England.
Having represented England at the Under-16 -U-17, Saka has the option of continuing with them or switching his allegiance to Nigeria but the 18-year-old says it will be a tough decision for him to make.
“It’s a tough choice,” Saka told Sky Sports.
“I’m happy to have represented England at youth level but I’m also proud of my Nigerian heritage from my parents.
“We haven’t been picked by any team so it’s about staying humble and when the time comes we will make the decision.”
Saka’s comment comes following reports the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have kicked their efforts to get the Arsenal player to commit to Nigeria.
Although the decision lies with the 18-year-old, the NFF want to quickly contact him and make him switch his allegiance to Nigeria.
The NFF under the current leadership have been successful in some of their attempts to get players to switch their allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Former Arsenal star Alex Iwobi, Chelsea forward Victor Moses and fullback Ola Aina all represented England at the youth levels before switching their allegiances to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
There have also been some unsuccessful attempts. The NFF met with Chelsea players Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori who turned down the invitation to make their international debuts for England.
