Super Eagles of Nigeria to resume AFCON 2021 qualifiers in November while 2022 World Cup qualifiers kick off in May 2021
CAF in a letter to the NFF have confirmed new dates for the qualifiers.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have confirmed new dates for the Super Eagles’ 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The outbreak of the coronavirus in Africa saw the suspension of international football by FIFA and CAF.
With this suspension, the Super Eagles did not play their AFCON 2021 qualifiers double-header against Sierra Leone which was scheduled to be played in March.
In a letter sent to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Wednesday, August, 19, CAF have confirmed new dates for the fixtures.
Signed by CAF’s General Secretary Abdelmounaim Bah the letter states that the Super Eagles will host their fellow West Africans on Monday, November 9, while the reverse fixture will take place on Tuesday, November 17.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria lead Group L-which has Benin Republic, Lesotho and Sierra Leone-of the qualifiers with six games from two games
CAF also confirmed that qualifying matches for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will kick off in May 2021.
