Lagos Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf has commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for the peaceful conduct of the local government election.

Akinbile-Yussuf, who voted at 11.15 am at Polling Unit 001, Army Dog Centre, Ipaja, commended LASIEC for the peaceful conduct of the exercise and the largely impressive turnout.

She said: ‘’ I am happy with the conduct of LASIEC so far. LASIEC officials arrived at this centre early enough around 8.45 am and people are ready to cast their votes for their leaders at the local government level.

‘’ I have been able to move around and see that everywhere as peaceful without any form of violence and unlike other elections where there was apathy on the part of electorate, people have turned out massively, especially at my polling unit to vote and that is due to the commendable efforts Governor Babajide Sanwo –Olu has made in developing Lagos State through enviable projects.’’

The ongoing local government election however witnessed low turnout, late arrival of electoral officers and commencement of voting in some parts of Alimosho council area.

The Polling Unit 011 at Ajasa-Amikanle Hall witnessed a fairly impressive number of voters.

LASIEC officers arrived at the centre at 9 am while voting commenced at 10:22 am.

Scanty voters who turned out at the polling unit 006 in Ward E in Agbelekale area of Abule Egba in Agabdo/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Alimosho were disappointed as LASIEC officials did not arrive until 11 am while voting started a few minutes later.

One of the electoral officers hinged the delay on logistics, saying: ‘’ We were supposed to have been here as early as possible but we could not locate our centre on time until some people took us down here.’’

At the nearby Unit 007, polling officers arrived at about 9.24 am while voting commenced at 9.32 am.

Over 60 persons had voted at the centre as at 1230pm

At Polling Unit 003, Command Gate, Ward G in Agbado/Oke- Odo voting commenced at 9.20 am with over 20 persons voted as at 10.40 am.
