Ondo election: Go to UK Court, APC mocks Jegede, PDP

By Osagie Otabor, Akure

The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State has urged the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and its governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, to further appeal to the Privy Council of the United Kingdom ‘where the party and its governorship candidate take exception to the collapse of their petition.’

Spokesman for Ondo APC, Alex Kalejaiye, was reacting to Wednesday’s Supreme Court ruling, which threw out Jegede’s appeal challenging judgments of the lower courts over the outcome of last year’s governorship election.

The statement, which described the judgment as faultless, commended Justices of the Supreme Court for upholding decisions of the lower courts on Jegede’s petition.

It said truth would always remained constant.

The statement said the party rejoiced with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, his deputy, Hon. Lucky Ayedatiwa, and all the residents for affirmation of the people’s mandate.

According to the statement: “The APC family expresses profound appreciation to all the parties and stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the legal teams, chieftains of the ruling party, and the electorate, for their contributions and support while the legal battle lasted.

“The party enjoins the Governor and his Deputy to put the legal gymnastics and distractions behind them, and focus on their selfless approach to governance, in the interest of every resident of the state, irrespective of party affiliations.

“While sympathizing with the PDP over internal crisis rocking the party, the Ondo APC challenges the PDP to reorganise itself so it could present a productive opposition to the performing government.”
