'I was happy the master called,' - AY recounts the only time Basketmouth apologised to him
The comedian also said that Basketmouth would never apologise to anyone, so he was shocked.
Renowned Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared a surprising encounter he had with his colleague, Basketmouth, with whom he has had a long-standing feud.
AY had previously revealed that the disagreement between them stemmed from a ₦30,000 gig, and he also mentioned being turned away from Basketmouth's wedding despite attending with his wife.
In the same interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, AY recounted an unexpected phone call he received from Basketmouth amidst their ongoing feud. AY explained that he had shared a post on social media about buying a car for his wife, and shortly after, Basketmouth made a post condemning flaunting wealth on social media. This led to speculation from the public that Basketmouth was indirectly taking a dig at AY, which garnered attention in the comment section.
In a surprising turn of events, The movie producer revealed that Basketmouth actually called him to clarify that his social media post was not aimed at him. He expressed his delight at receiving the call, as he hoped it would help to clear the air and resolve any misunderstandings between them.
AY shared that despite the positive exchange with Basketmouth, when he returned to Nigeria and attempted to maintain a cordial relationship with him, he was met with cold treatment and was ignored by Basketmouth. This further added to the complexities of their feud and the challenges of reconciling their differences.
He said, "Something happened that never happened in the history of my knowing Bright Okpocha. Bright Okpocha would not bring himself on the level to apologise to you on anything. So, there was a post he made, about people showing off cars, people who just go online and show off stuff when they buy stuff and everything.
"Incidentally, I posted a ride I got my wife two days to that tweet, so people went on his page and were like, 'Oh, this must be referring to AY' and for the first time, Bright Okpocha, he carried his phone and called me. If you see how happy I was. Like he called me practically like, 'guy, see wetin I dey hear o, people are relating what I posted to you, it has nothing to do with you. I was very appreciative of the fact that the Master called, which is very rare, he will never stoop that low. So, that the Master called, I was happy. My belief was that, that is now going to form the balance that I've been craving for us to have."
Nevertheless, AY shared that despite the positive exchange with Basketmouth, when he returned to Nigeria and attempted to maintain a cordial relationship with him, he was met with cold treatment and was ignored by Basketmouth. This further added to the complexities of their feud and the challenges in reconciling their differences
He added, "So, when I came back to Nigeria, he was having a show, I called him, 'ah this your show that you're having, incidentally, it's the same day I'm doing Port Harcourt but we could do like a skit idea and all that'. All the voice note, everything is still in my phone."
Let's do it this way, this way," AY said narrating an idea to Basketmouth who responded with, "Ya, I'll think about it and then we'll see how we'll run it."
On why he reached out to Basketmouth, He said, "Because, the servant was still willing to serve the master, but guess what? Long story short, e no reach two to three weeks Master just waka pass me for event."
AY said Basketmouth's beef with him has also extended to people close to him, as Basketmouth automatically cancels anything that has something to do with him.
In response, Basketmouth, in an interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, reiterated that he was never friends with AY and had never initiated a phone call to him. He also said that 80% of what AY said was not true.
