I do not condemn polygamy - Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie
He has some firm beliefs on the idea of marriage.
Veteran actor and father of Yul Edochie, Pete Edochie has shared his stance on polygamy, noting that he does not condemn taking in a second wife.
He made his declaration during an interview with Chude Jideonwo after being asked about his views on polygamy. According to him, people who take second wives have their reasons for doing so.
When asked why he didn't take a second wife himself, Pete stated that he did not marry another woman because he had no reason to, as his wife already bore him five sons.
In his words, "The people who take second wives know best why they take second wives. I don’t have any need for a second wife. For me, I mean I have a wife who has given me five sons, what am I going to look for a second wife for? No it’s not necessary. I will not condemn polygamy, no, because people have their reasons for what they do, right."
To back up his stance, the actor told a story about a man he knew who took another wife because his first wife denied him the intimacy he sought from her. Noting that said man had a reason for marrying another woman.
“One day, the man just left the house, came back with this woman and 3 sons, ‘This is my second wife o, so you have to cope with it," he said.
The conversation stems from the fact that Pete's son, Yul had taken a second wife, and his first wife filed for divorce. According to the actor, he was unaware that his son took a second wife, as he wasn't told.
