Crucify Him: Policeman who abducted, raped 14-yr-old girl arrested at last

The police officer, Barau Garba, is accused of abducting and raping a 14-yr-old girl

Following public outcry, a police officer who was accused of abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl has been arrested in Anambra.

A police officer who was accused of abducting a 14-year-old girl and raped her for six days, rupturing her private parts in the process, has been arrested.

The suspect, Corporal Barau Garba was picked up by operatives attached to the Anambra State Police Command on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Garba Umar, following an outcry by Nigerians.

Speaking at a press conference in Awka on Monday, October 30, 2017, CP Umar said Garba abducted the minor near her residence at Hausa Quarters, Asaba, and kept her in custody for some days at Okpoko in Onitsha, but denied raping her.

Umar added that the suspect was attached to Mobile Squadron in Sokoto State but deployed to Anambra on special duty.

In a statement sign by the CP himself, he said:

"The Police Command wishes to confirm the arrest of F/No 275601 CPL Bara’u Garba attached to 7PMF Sokoto but deployed to Anambra State on special duty for the alleged abduction and defilement of a 14-year-old girl.

The erring policeman was arrested, defaulted and detained accordingly; and is facing police internal disciplinary procedures. He will be arraigned in an appropriate court of the land as soon as the criminal investigation against him is concluded.

This is indeed an isolated case and does not reflect the core values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force. Justice will not only be done but seen to have been done.

The suspect confessed to have seen the girl wandering about in Asaba because she had lost the money with which she was sent on an errand by her parents.

He used the opportunity to lure and kept her in his custody but denied having carnal knowledge of her.

However, we will soon confirm whether he had carnal knowledge of the minor or not because an investigation is ongoing, while the minor is also undergoing a medical examination.

I can assure the public that the Corporal will be arraigned as soon as the criminal investigation is concluded.”

The alarm was raised by one Comrade Alhassan Haruna Dambatta, a human rights activist and journalist who posted the story on his Facebook page, calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Anambra Police Command to bring Cpl. Garba to book after all efforts made to get him had proved abortive.
