Nigerian Abroad: Iwobi shines, Moses suffers defeat with Chelsea, Etebo beat Ideye, Success in La Liga relegation clash

Another busy weekend over and a host of Nigerian players were in action again for their respective clubs abroad.

This is a round-up of how they fared at their clubs.

In England

Where else to start than England where Alex Iwobi played the 90 minutes and had an assist as Arsenal blew Everton away 5-1 at the Emirate Stadium. That was the fourth straight Premier League start for the Nigeria international and his 16th league game for Arsenal this season.

 

Wilfred Ndidi was also on for 90 minutes as Leicester City were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Swansea. Ndidi scored a goal that was ruled out for offside.

His Leicester City teammates and compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho started the game but was withdrawn in the second half. He assisted Leicester City’s only goal and missed a sitter in the first half.

 

On Monday, Victor Moses was on for 90 minutes as 10-men Chelsea were beaten away at Watford 4-1.

In the Championship, Super Eagles right-back Ola Aina played 90 minutes in Hull City’s 2-1 away loss to Preston North End. The game was Aina’s 27th league appearance for Hull City this season.

In Italy

Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi made his 15th appearance for Torino in their 1-1 away draw at Sampdoria.

In Scotland

Nigerian midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali was a 64th-minute substitute as Aberdeen beat Hamilton Academical 3-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

 

The 21-year-old has now made two appearances since joining on a six-month loan deal from Manchester City.

Veteran Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose played all 90 minutes as Hibernian got the three points with a 2-1 away victory at Rangers in his 26th appearance for Hibs this season.

In Germany

Nigerian striker Anthony Ujah was on the bench all through as FSV Mainz lost 2-0 at home to Bayern Munich.

His compatriot Leon Balogun was not listed in Mainz’s squad for the game.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was on the bench for the whole 90 minutes as Wolfsburg were held 1-1 at home by Stuggart.

In the Netherlands

Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi played all 90 minutes in ADO Den Haag’s 1-1 draw away at Heracles. That was his 20th Eredivisie game of the season.

In Spain

Nigerian midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo played all 90 minutes in Las Palmas 1-0 win against Malaga.

 

In action for Malaga were Brown Ideye who played for 90 minutes and Isaac Success who came on in the 78th minute.

Emmanuel Emenike was not listed in Las Palmas squad for the game.

In Egypt

Former Nigeria youth international, Junior Ajayi pulled a Man of the Match performance for Al Ahly, assisting and scoring in their 3-0 win over Al-Ittihad in the Egyptian Premier League.

In Turkey

Nigerian players Kenneth Omeruo and Emem Eduok were in action for Kasimpasa in their 2-0 home win over Akhisar Belediyespor in the Turkish Super Lig.

Omeruo was on for 90 minutes while Eduok was substituted late on in the game.

In Belgium

Joseph Akpala netted the only goal for Oostende in their 1-1 draw away at Zulte-Waregem in a Belgian Jupiler League game.

It was his compatriot Peter Olayinka that scored for Zulte-Waregem.
