Pep Guardiola: Manchester City manager says Aguero dived against United
Manchester United came from two goals down to defeat Manchester City.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Sergio Aguero dived when tackled by Ashley Young in City's 3-2 Premier League defeat to United on Saturday, April 7.
Sergio Aguero appealed for a penalty in the 80th minute of the game after a tackle by Ashley Young in the box.
Matchday referee Martin Atkinson waved away continuous appeals by Aguero and his teammates.
Guardiola, however, has come out to give his say on the matter as he stated sarcastically that his striker dived in the box.
Pep stated sarcastically that Aguero dived in his post-match conference for their second leg Champions League clash against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
When asked about his opinion about the tackle Guardiola said, “He was diving.”
Manchester United legend Gary Neville gave his opinion about the tackle as he stated that a penalty should have been awarded for Young’s tackle.
He said, “It looked a penalty all day long, it was a reckless challenge by Young. He flew into the challenge.”
“It's a bad challenge from Young. He follows through with his right leg into the shin of Aguero. It's not just a penalty, it is close to being a red card as well. United have got away with one there. Young is lucky. Guardiola has every right to be incensed.”
Guardiola, however, confirmed that his star striker is fit for the game against Liverpool after coming from the bench against Manchester United.
Manchester City have to overturn a 3-0 first leg defeat suffered at Anfield if they are to progress to the semi-final of the Champions League.
