Steven Gerrard: Liverpool legend says Leroy Sane’s goal should have counted

Liverpool beat Manchester City1-2 in their second leg quarter final clash.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has stated that Leroy Sane’s goal which was disallowed in Manchester City's loss on Tuesday, April 10 should have counted.

Manchester City lost 1-2 to Liverpool in their second leg quarter-final clash at the Etihad Stadium.

City scored the game’s opener through Gabriel Jesus in the second minute, and then German forward Leroy Sane bundled in the ball only for the centre referee Mateu Lahoz to disallow the goal.

 

Gerrard was on punditry duties and in his analysis, at halftime of the game the Liverpool great stated that the goal will have made a difference if awarded.

He said, 'It's massive, They’re the things that need to go in your favour. “

Replays of the disallowed goal suggest it should have counted as the ball came off a Liverpool player James Milner, before Sane poked the ball in.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was furious with the decision that went against him.

 

The City manager confronted the center referee for in a heated discussion which led to the city manager sent off into the stands for the second 45 minutes.

Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino both scored in the second half to give Liverpool victory in both legs and an aggregate score of 5-1 as the progressed to the semifinals of the Champions League.
