TheWNS embarked on seven-show tour of Japan in February 2016, with great performances in major cities likes Tokyo and Fukuoka.

Exquisite is one way to describe one-woman rock band, The White Noise Supremacists (TheWNS), founded by Ifeoluwa Babalola, who got introduced to the Nigerian music scene only recently.

Her performance at Rocktoberfest 2017, held at the Freedom Park, Lagos, inspired an intense amount of interest from fans who watched her perform in a new style different from what they are used to.

Babalola's display in front of the crowd brought a feeling of excitement and more reasons to anticipate a brighter fortune for the future of rock music in Nigeria. Her unique show of proficiency in her craft has only made for a more mysterious figure especially for those who are still in a state of disbelief over the reality of her exceptional skills.

If you are one still having difficulty fathoming who TheWNS is, here are five things that will improve your awareness about the band:

  1. Started musical career in the United States of America: No surprise there if you are considering the high level of her talent which had fans shook during her performance at the Rocktoberfest 2017 concert. It was her first exploit in front of a Nigerian crowd and it was a love at 'first stroke of the guitar' for her new audience. Her early grooming in the US where musicians no matter the genre they patronize possess awesome capabilities, is no doubt a part of the reason for her development. She should provide strong competition for other rock stars, perhaps even help them improve their effort.

  2. Band is 14 years old: The near perfect musical style of The White Noise Supremacists did not happen overnight of course. With 14 years of experience, the band has gathered so much knowledge which is evident in its output. Definitely, a knock will fall upon her door when Nigerian music executives start to show more courage about their investment in genres different from the mainstream.

  3. Successful seven-show tours in Japan: In addition to her talent, the one-woman band has also enjoyed a wide reach which has seen Ifeoluwa Babalola move the crowd in Fukuoka and Tokyo, one of the music conscious cities in Japan. The shows occurred between February 20 to 26, 2016, and they saw her serve an audience known for a hunger for aggressive rock - one of the elements that defines her vocal personality. Her songs have reflected a personality with a feminist nature who holds nothing back when racism and sexism are the subject.

  4. Synchronal handling of drums and guitar: Part of what you will find intriguing about The White Noise Supremacists is the ability of its only member Babalola to simultaneously play the guitar and hit the drum set. The resulting sound? Pure heaven. It is a MO that has helped boost the appreciation for her style which is yet to meet a superior figure since she came into the scene. Currently, no other Nigerian  rock artiste can boast of having the skills to multi-task on musical instruments like she does. She gives her performance a feel of a group of musicians with varied roles.

  5. Band has three EPs to its credit: Fourteen years in her trade has birthed three amazing EPs. The band's first release "Shadows" dropped in the year 2006 and contains six tracks. It came out under Babalola's record label, I Eat Souls, which also facilitated “The Scene Is Dead (A New Beginning)” in 2010 and "The White Noise Supremacists" in 2015. The founder of the band relocated to Berlin, Germany, from the US due to issues relating to "racism, sexism and elitism that served to hinder her growth in the NYC independent rock scene." Babalola is an ideal independent artiste who produces her music videos through 1234 Films, a privately owned company.
