WorldRemit joined forces with Arsenal to help more people save money on international transfers.

A research by one of the partners of Arsenal, WorldRemit research reveals that thousands in Nigeria are missing out on Christmas presents and time with loved ones this Christmas.

WorldRemit is one of the leading digital money transfer business formed by a UK-based entrepreneur from Somaliland Ismail Ahmed.

In November 2017, the company joined forces with Arsenal to accelerate the company’s growth and help more people save money on international transfers.

To help Nigerians save more money on money transfer to Nigeria this Christmas, lower cost online channels like WorldRemit have provided solutions.

Savings they could spend on an extra Christmas present home this year. The high costs of sending money home mean the Nigerian diaspora are losing out on saving up to seven percent when sending money home.

The savings were highest when sending from Australia to Nigeria at $14.3 enough to buy a board game, but even a saving of $1 could get you a candy bar this year.

Traditional money transfer services mean both senders and recipients need to take time off to travel to an agent to either pay in or collect money - time that could be spent with family and friends this Christmas.

Saving the cost of public transport in Australia to pay in money just a couple of times a month could be enough to buy a board game or a box of chocolates for family and friends back in Nigeria. With most people sending around three times a month, the the savings across the month of December could be even greater.

In short, sending money frequently, without having to pay high costs or waste time, brings families and friends closer together, even when living hundreds of miles apart. So we hope that we can give people the precious gift of more time with family and friends this Christmas – and perhaps a few extra presents under the tree.

We see that being able to send money more frequently without paying high costs and wasting time brings families and friends closer together even when living hundreds of miles apart," WorldRemit founder Ahmed said.

"So we hope we can give people more time with family and friends this Christmas.”

WorldRemit’s service is available to senders in 50 countries and the company offers money transfers to more than 140 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas.

The company is a global leader in international transfers paid out as mobile money - where funds can be held on mobile telephone accounts. WorldRemit connects to over 130 million mobile money accounts, enabling money to be sent safely to friends and family even if the recipient doesn’t have access to a bank account.

A partnership deal signed with Arsenal in November will support the WorldRemit’s growth ambitions by helping them reach Arsenal’s 74 million followers on their official social media channels and 185 supporters’ clubs worldwide.
