Henry Onyekuru: Super Eagles star is spending time with his family in Nigeria while recovering from injury
Onyekuru is out for a couple of months with a torn medial ligament.
Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has returned to Nigeria and is currently spending time with his family while he recovers from injury.
Onyekuru is out for a couple of months with a torn medial ligament which he suffered while playing for Anderlecht on Friday, December 22.
The 20-year-old was stretched out in the 78th minute and further scans confirmed that he tore his medial ligament.
Onyekuru has revealed that he is spending time with his family which he believes will speed up his recovery.
“Had to come back Home to spend time with the family. Family time speeds up the recovery, God willing I’ll be back better and stronger,” the Everton player wrote on his Twitter alongside a photo of him and his sister.
It is still unclear if he has undergone surgery after his club insisted that he will go under the knife.
Surgery or not
After initial diagnosis revealed that the 20-year-old will require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation, reports emerged that he won’t be going under the knife.
Anderlecht, however, released a statement to debunk the reports insisting that the Nigerian forward will have surgery which will rule him out for several months.
The surgery will extend Onyekuru’s stay on the sidelines
Surgery means that he has little chance of being fit enough to get on the plane to the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the Super Eagles.
