Dbanj: 3 things pop star said about the Nigerian music industry
The Kokomaster, who spoke as one of the panellists on the topic: Changing The Game: Artistes As Leaders, took a swipe at record label owners.
Dbanj said some hard stuff on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, when he spoke at the 2018 edition of social media week in Lagos.
The Kokomaster, who spoke as one of the panellists on the topic: Changing The Game: Artistes As Leaders, took a swipe at record label owners.
Here are the 3 things Dbanj said:
1. Most record labels are owned by Yahoo boys.
2. Nigerian artistes lack capacity.
3. Record label owners don’t know anything about music.
His words: “Most of the new generation record labels are founded by Yahoo boys. You must understand first, why are you coming into music.
“Nigerian artistes need a lot of capacity building. It is only in Nigeria that the owner of a record label doesn’t know anything about music.
“Just like any product, you must always evolve. The fear of being poor made me think outside the box. This is one of the factors that drove me into music.”
Social media week has grown to become Nigeria’s flagship annual tech event.
Pulse Nigeria, media partner to the 2018 social media week, hosted a session on Monday, 26th of February, titled: The evolution of Native advertising: a case study of Pulse 36.
