Kayode Olanrewaju: Manchester City loan out Nigerian forward to Shakhtar Donetsk
Kayode Olanrewaju will spend the rest of the 2017/18 season in Ukraine.
Nigerian forward Kayode Olanrewaju has been loaned out by English Premier League side Manchester City to Ukranian oufit Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 24-year-old Nigerian completed a move to Manchester City in the 2017 summer transfer window, but was immediately loaned out by Pep Guardiola to Spanish side Girona.
Olanrewaju struggled to get the needed playing time in Spain, after a wonderful season that saw him crowned top scorer in the Austrian first division.
The forward was linked with a move to sevral clubs in the 2018 winter transfer window, but on Friday, March 2 Shakhtar Donetsk announced the signing of the Nigerian international on loan via the clubs official Twitter account, with a message which said "FC Shakhtar loaned out @ManCity striker Olarenwaju Kayode!"
Kayode who signed a four year contract with Manchester city will be with the Ukranian side till the end of the season.
A statement on the club's official site confirmed, "The loan agreement will be effective until the end of the 2017/18 season and includes the buyout option."
He becomes the second Nigerian to be loaned out Manchester City after the loan move of Chidiebere Nwakali to Scottish side Aberdeen.
Kayode has made a total of four appearances for the Super Eagles, but is yet to register a goal, and will hope his move to Ukraine convinces head coach Gernot Rohr to include him in the team for the friendlies against Poland and Serbia.
The Nigerian forward has turned out for ASEC Mimosas, Luzern, Heartland, Maccabi Netanya, Austria Wien and Girona before his move to Shakhtar Donetsk.
