NPFL: Lobi Stars stay top of the league with home win

Here is a roundup of matchday 14 fixtures in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Lobi Stars are still on top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after the matchday 14 fixtures played on Sunday, March 25.

There were 10 matchday 14 fixtures played, which involved three draws and seven home teams picking up maximum points.

A total of 29 goals were scored, as none of the ten games played failed to produce goals.

 

Seven NPFL home wins on matchday 14

A thrilling contest which produced five goals saw Lobi Stars defeat Rivers United at home to stay top of the League.

A penalty converted by Ezekiel Mba in the 19th minute gave Lobi the lead, which was cancelled by a penalty converted by Oche Salefu in the 22nd minute.

Rivers then took the lead through Frederick Obomate in the 33rd minute, but Austin Ogunye scored in the 69th minute to equalise, and netted a late penalty to give Lobi Stars all three points.

Wikki Tourists defeated Elkanemi by three un-replied goals, to bounce back from last weeks defeat to Abia Warriors.

Wikki took the lead through Umar Abba in the 27th minute, while a second-half brace in the 48th and 61st minute by Shammah Tanze sealed the victory.

An early goal from Austin Igenepo John in the 7th minute was enough to give Niger Tornadoes all three points against Sunshine Stars.

At the soccer temple Agege, MFM FC had to come from behind to get all three points against Katsina United.

Yushau Garba gave Katsina the lead in the 37th minute, before a brace from Chijioke Akuneto in the 49th and 67th minute sealed the victory for the Lagos based side.

Kwara United defeated Kano Pillars at home, Junior Lokosa gave the away side the lead in the 28th minute, but Sunday Uchechukwu equalised in the 65th minute and Lookman Binuyo scored the winner in the 70th minute for the NPFL newcomers.

Ifeanyi Ubah defeated reigning NPFL champions 3-0, with a hattrick by Kone Yaya Soumaila scored in the 44th, 56th and 65th minute.

Heartland needed two penalties converted by Macmarcel Obioha in the 31st and 90th minute to defeat Nasarawa United 2-1, Ikechukwu Nwani scored in the 60th minute for the away side.

 

Three NPFL draws on matchday 14

Akwa United had to come from behind to rescue a draw against Abia Warriors, Obi Samson with the opener for the away side in the 75th minute, while Dumte Christian Pyagbara equalised for Akwa in the 83rd minute.

Yobe Desert Stars came from behind to get a draw at home against Enyimba International, Mustapha Ibrahim scored for the people's elephants in the 5th minute, but Yobe equaliSed via a penalty converted by Phillip Auta in the 59th minute.

Go Round came from two goals down to pick up a point at home against Rangers InternationalIfeanyi George scored a brace in the 7th minute and 23rd minute to give Enugu the lead, but Go Round equalised through Eta Okon Otop in the 62nd minute, while Chile Azu converted a penalty in the 90th minute to give the NPFL newcomers a point at home.

The NPFL continues with matchday 15 on Sunday, April 1.
