Sridevi Kapoor: Thousands mourn Bollywood actress at funeral
Thousands of fans gathered in Mumbai where Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor was laid to rest.
Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor has been cremated in Mumbai as thousands of fans gather to mourn the late superstar.
Her body was flown home on Tuesday night in a private plane owned by Anil Ambani, a Mumbai entertainment baron.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, her body, placed in a glass-panelled casket and wrapped in an Indian flag, was taken to the crematorium, where her funeral took place according to Hindu tradition.
Her funeral was attended by Bollywood stars such as Ajay Devgan, Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone and Manish Malhotra.
The 54-year-old Bollywood actor was in Dubai for a relatives wedding when she passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
It was Initially reported that she had died of a cardiac arrest in her hotel room. A forensic report released by the Dubai police has since revealed that she had died due to ‘drowning in her hotel apartment's bathtub following the loss of consciousness’.
Investigators in Dubai closed their case on Tuesday and handed the body to her family.
Sridevi was four when she appeared in her first film. She was popular for films such as “Mr. India” (1987), “ChaalBaaz” (1989), “Chandni” (1989) and “Lamhe” (1991).
In 1996, after she got married to film producer Boney Kapoor, she retired from acting for 15 years. She returned in 2012 with the movie, “English Vinglish.”
In 2013, she was given the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian awards, for her services to the film industry.
Kapoor's final film, which was released in 2017, is titled "Mom," and saw her play a teacher out to revenge the rape of her stepdaughter.
