Xavier Amaechi: Nigerian born forward scores for Arsenal in FA Youth Cup semifinal

Xavier Amaechi is still eligible to represent the Super Eagles.

Nigerian born striker Xavier Amaechi was among the goals for Arsenal in their 2-2 draw with Blackpool in the semifinal first leg of the FA Youth Cup.

Amaechi who is yet to feature for any Nigerian national team set up was impressive for the gunners.

The Arsenal youth team took the led through Tyreece John-Jules before Dylan Sumner equalised for Blackpool.

Amaechi scored what he thought will be the winner in the 63 minute as he fired into the bottom corner.

 

Arsenal were denied victory when Ben Jacobson equalised again for Blackpool to make the game all tied going into the second leg on Monday, April 16.

Amaechi and his Arsenal teammates will hope to win the Youth Cup for the first time since 2009 when the club last won it.

Players of Nigerian descent in action for Arsenal include, Folarin Balogun, Tobi Omole, Bukayo Saka, James Olayinka and goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.

Amaechi and the players of Nigerian descent such as Phillip Ejimadu are still eligible to play for the Super Eagles provided they do not represent another country’s senior national team in a competitive match.
