World Cup 2018: 5 things we learnt from England 2 Vs 1 Tunisia
Harry Kane netted a late-minute winner for England in their 2-1 win over Tunisia on Monday.
A Harry Kane brace rescued England in their first game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup to take the three points with a 2-1 win over Tunisia.
These are five things we learnt from the game.
1. Scoring jinx?
The 2-1 win over Tunisia is the first time England are scoring more than once in 10 World Cup matches.
England have not scored more than one goal in World Cup game since a 2-2 draw against Sweden in 2006.
2. Winless streak
Tunisia’s loss to England on Monday continues a winless streak in World Cup games that stretches to 1978 when they won their first ever match in the competition, a 3-1 win over Mexico.
3. Unbeaten against Africans
The 2-1 win over Tunisia continues England’s unbeaten run against African nations in the World Cup.
England have played seven games against African nations in the World Cup, winning four and drawing three.
4. Kane the new prince
Harry Kane’s brace against Tunisia takes his tally for England to 15 in 25 appearances.
The last England player to score more in their opening 25 games for England was Gary Lineker who netted 20.
5. Bright start
Looking to make a statement of intent, England made a very bright start in the game, attempting six shots on target in the first half.
The six shots on target are their most in the opening 45 minutes of a World Cup game since Vs Portugal in the 1966 World Cup.
