Afeez Aremu: IK Start midfielder to play for Flying Eagles against Mauritania
Aremu will join up with the U-20 team for the AFCON qualifier against Mauritania.
Afeez Aremu has been granted permission by his Norwegian club IK Start to play for the Flying Eagles against Mauritania in their U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) second leg qualifier scheduled for Saturday, July 21.
The 19-year-old joined IK Start in Norway from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) Akwa United during the transfer window.
He has enjoyed a successful spell in Norway cementing a spot in the starting line and contributed three goals in a total of 16 appearances.
According to a report by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Aremu turned up to training with the Flying Eagles who are in preparation for the crucial qualifier.
Upon his request, the NFF informed IK Start of his willingness to participate in the game which they agreed upon.
Aremu who featured for the Super Eagles at the WAFU Cup will now wear the colours of the country after missing out from the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The match will take place at the Agege Stadium at 4 pm Nigerian time.
The Flying Eagles played out a 1-1 draw away at Mauritania and require a win by any margin to progress to the 2019 U-20 AFCON.

The officials in charge for the game between the Flying Eagles of Nigeria and Mauritania are from Egypt.
Mahmoud Zakaria Mohamed El Banna will be the centre referee and is joined by compatriots, Ahmed Taha Hossam (Assistant Referee 1), Hany Abdelfattah Mahmoud Elsnadidy (Assistant Referee 2) and Ahmed Mahrous Mahmoud Ahmed Hassan ElGhandour (Reserve Referee), while the match commissioner Sallieu Kamara is from Senegal.
