Ego Boyo queries sponsorship of Hollywood movie premieres in Nigeria

Actress and filmmaker, Ego Boyo is yet to understand why Nigerian banks will choose to spend huge funds on premiere of Hollywood movies in Nigeria.

Ego Boyo, has queried the sponsorship of foreign movies by Nigerian banks and other corporate organisations in recent time.

On Saturday, July 28, 2018, the Checkmate star took to her Twitter handle to bare her mind on the recent wave which has seen Nigerian banks and other corporate organisations bankrolling elaborate red carpet premieres for Hollywood movies like Black Panther and Ocean 8 in 2018 alone.

The actress, who joins Richard Mofe Damijo on TV sitcom, Mr X Family Show, also pointed out that the premieres generates no notice or interest from Hollywood or the producers of the movie.

“Just wondering why some Nigerian banks and corporate organisations sponsor premieres of foreign films.

 

“No notice or interest from Hollywood or the producers of those films, no appearance by the stars nada,” she wrote.

Ego Boyo calls out Nollywood for lack of originality

In 2017, Boyo called out Nollywood for the quality of films being produced.

In series of tweets, Boyo implied that some Nigerian filmmakers focus more on technology than quality storytelling.

According to the filmmaker, she misses the old days when the industry was rich in content and originality.

Rita Dominic had also commented on the quality of Nollywood movies that show in the cinemas.

The actress took to her Instagram page to share a quote on why there are bad films.

She also said that not all Nollywood movies should be in cinemas, advising filmmakers to ensure that the quality of their work matches the hype they create for it.
