Henry Onyekuru: Super Eagles forward plays first match for Galatasaray
Six months after his injury, Onyekuru is back on the pitch for his new club Galatasaray.
Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has played his first match for Galatasaray against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, July 18, making a return form a six-month injury.
Onyekuru who recently completed a loan move from Everton to Galatasaray came on as a substitute in the encounter.
Injury ruled Onyekuru out of action for Anderlecht in the second half of the 2017/18 season and also made him miss out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Onyekuru, however, is getting prepared for a new season with Galatasaray and featured for 24 minutes in the preseason friendly against Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven.
The game ended 3-1 in favour of the Netherland based side as they took a first-half lead through Steven Bergwijn in the 41st minute.
Donyell Malen doubled up the lead for PSV up in the 58th minute, while Martin Linnes equalised for Galatasaray in the 65th minute.
Onyekuru was introduced given the number 21 and featured mostly on the left side of attack.
Cody Gakpo, however, sealed the result for PSV when he scored their third goal of the game late on.
Speaking after the game to Galatasaray’s website Onyekuru stated that he is delighted to have made his debut.
He said, "A good game, frankly. We will continue to struggle. We have a Valencia game ahead of us. I am very happy that it was my first match.
“First time in front of Galatasaray supporters. I feel like I'm here at home. There is a loving welcome to me. I will try to make the best and prepare for the best. "
The Belgium Talent of the Year is expected to be in action in Galatasaray's next friendly encounter against Spanish La Liga side Valencia on Friday, July 20.
