Leon Balogun: Super Eagles defender makes debut for Brighton & Hove Albion
Leon Balogun played for 64 minutes in Brighton's pre-season game against Charlton Athletic.
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun made his debut for side Brighton & Hove Albion in a 1-1 pre-season draw against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday, July 24.
The 30-year-old defender who recently started training with the Premier League side was in action for 64 minutes against the Championship side before he was replaced by Ben Barclay.
The game ended 1-1 but was goalless at halftime which Balogun played the entirety of.
Pascal Gross gross opened the goals just after the halftime break after Glen Murray go on the end of a James Tilley cross only for him to rebound into the net.
Balogun played his part by keeping the scoreline in Brighton’s advantage at halftime when he tackled Nick Ajose who was through on goal.
Balogun was already out of the game when Mahamadou-Naby Sarr grabbed what turned out to be the equaliser for Charlton in the 82nd minute.
Speaking after the encounter, stated that he enjoyed his time on the pitch and is trying to adapt to his new club after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
He said, “I’m an aggressive player with the typical German discipline, but what I am trying to do now is fit in because there are some differences.
“I like the physical aspects of the game, and I am also looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere here, which I got a sense of in the game on Tuesday.

“I enjoyed it a lot, and I wanted to soak it up. Now I want to give my all and just try to improve.”
Balogun is expected to play his second match since he joined Brighton from FSV Mainz when the Seagulls take on Birmingham City at St Andrews in their next pre-season fixture scheduled for Saturday, July 28.
