In a report by the BBC Sport, Ebeuehi has stated that it was a big decision to choose the Super Eagles over the Netherlands but it is one he doesn’t regret.

He said, "There's absolutely no regrets, it was a big choice and one I can happily live with.

"My father was born in Nigeria and he is from Benin City, which makes me half Nigerian. My mother is from Holland, so I'm half Nigerian and half Dutch."

The former ADO Den Haag defender also revealed that the Super Eagles are among the best teams in Africa and it was a great opportunity to represent the national team.

He said, "Nigeria is one of the biggest football countries in Africa. I think it was a great opportunity for me to play for Nigeria.

"So I'm happy that I made this decision. I think it's the best decision I have made in my football career.”

Ebuehi further revealed that it was his decision to play for the Super Eagles instead of the Netherlands, but teammate William Troost-Ekong had a role to play in the process as he also was eligible to play for both countries.

He said, "Born in the same city [Haarlem] as me, Troost-Ekong gave me some advice and told me about the benefits of playing for Nigeria.

"As a big brother he had played for the Netherlands at junior levels before choosing Nigeria, so he also had a big role to play in my decision."

Ebuehi who signed for Benfica just before the start of the World Cup has made a total of seven appearances for the Super Eagles.
