Kane: Former wrestling star has been elected mayor in Tennessee
The 51-year-old ran as a Republican and won two-thirds of the vote in Knox County, beating Democrat Linda Haney.
Former wrestling star Glenn Jacobs, popular known as Kane has been elected as a mayor in Tennessee.
Jacobs made his name in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as the character Kane, the masked half-brother of The Undertaker.
The 51-year-old ran as a Republican and won two-thirds of the vote in Knox County, beating Democrat Linda Haney.
He will be sworn in on September 1.
Low taxes, improved infrastructure and transparency were some of the issues he ran on.
Kane was a dark character in the WWE but he believes his former career will only help him.
"The thing someone like me brings to a race like this is, because of who I am, I can put Knox County in a positive light, nationally," he told local news station WBIR.
"There are so many great things our county has to offer, and frankly the rest of the country needs to know about it."
The WWE congratulated him with a statement on their website.
Kane is the second WWE star to win public office in the US following Jesse Ventura’s election also as a mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, in 1990 and governor in 1998.
