Nwankwo Kanu: Super Eagles legend to play in London for charity to raise money for heart foundation

Kanu is set to return to the pitch in London, this time a charity game to raise funds for his foundation.

Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu will again play in London for charity to raise money for his heart foundation.

Kanu who is now retired has organised the charity match on Sunday,  September 30 at The Hive Stadium London.

The event is called The Petrolex Kanu Cup and proceeds from the game will go to the Kanu Heart Foundation which provides heart operations for less privileged children across Africa.

The encounter will see football lovers witness Kanu take to the pitch again alongside some of his former teammates such as Sol Campbell, Lauren and Robert Pirès who have been pencilled down for the game.

Speaking on the development Kanu stated that even though his foundation has done a lot for heart operations across Africa, he intends to do more.

 

He said, “Since retiring from football, the Kanu Heart Foundation has been my biggest passion.

"It is amazing to be in a position to have helped over 500 children within and outside Nigeria gain access to vital heart operations, having suffered from heart conditions myself – but I want to do more.

The former Arsenal forward aims to use the funds from the game in building a new Cardiac Centre in Abuja, Nigeria, which is expected to ease the troubles of travelling abroad as will help sensitise Africans about heart diseases.

“The Petrolex Kanu Cup in association with Masters Football TM is an opportunity to bring people together to see some amazing players – and my great friends – play the beautiful game once more, whilst also raising money for a good cause.

"I cannot wait to share the full teams and for the game to kick off!.”

Kanu who is among the top African exports to the Premier League has continued to stay relevant on after his retirement playing an ambassadorial role for Nigeria during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
