Sheyi Ojo: Player of Nigerian descent joins Reims after renewing contract with Liverpool
Sheyi Ojo will continue his development in France with Stade de Reims.
Sheyi Ojo a player of Nigerian descent has completed a loan from English Premier League giants Liverpool to French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims.
The England youth international was deemed surplus to requirements by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and is on a season-long loan in France where he is expected to get more game time and develop.
The 21-year-old signed a new deal before he departed Anfield for his next adventure in France.
Ojo previously had loan spells at English club sides Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Fulham.
The loan spell to Reims is his first away from England after he helped Fulham secure promotion to the Premier League season.
Since joining the Reds from Milton Keynes Dons in 2011, Sheyi has only made a total of 13 appearances for the Liverpool first team.
He joins a Reims side that have won their two opening Ligue 1 games until a 4-1 loss to Amiens in their last fixture.
Sheyi Joins fellow academy graduate Ovie Ejaria who was also loaned out by Liverpool to Rangers.
Reims confirmed the deal for Sheyi with a message and short video clip on their official Twitter account.
The message said, “Reds to Red & White! International hopeful English @ sheyi_ojo arrives on loan at # SDR from @ LFC ! Virevoltant winger, the U20 World Champion enriches the offensive strike force of the Stadistes! # WelcomeSheyi.”
Sheyi who was part of the England team to win the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, he has not made an official appearance for the senior side Three Lions hence is eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria like teammate Taiwo Awoniyi who also loaned out to KAA Gent.
