Super Eagles: How the 23 players spent their holidays after World Cup 2018

With the football season back, we take a look at how the 23 Super Eagles players spent their holidays after 2018 World Cup.

It’s been exactly a month and two weeks since the Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 1-2 to Argentina to crash out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the group stage.

Since that defeat, the players have had their holidays and are back at their respective clubs preparing for the new season.

But how did they spend their holidays? Pulse Sports give a full detail of the 23 players in the Super Eagles squad to the 2018 World Cup let their hairs down.

Goalkeepers

Francis Uzoho

 

After playing in all of the Super Eagles games at the World Cup, Uzoho spent his time in Spain to recuperate for the new season.

During his break, the Deportivo de La Coruña goalkeeper signed with a new management agency to handle his affairs.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa

Was part of the Super Eagles crew that made the trip to Nigeria after the World Cup and spent all his break in Nigeria where he also plays for Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Enyimba.

Daniel Akpeyi

Akpeyi also made the trip back to Nigeria with the team and spent little time in the country before he jetted out to South Africa where he plays for Chippa United.

Defenders

William Troost-Ekong

 

Ekong headed straight to London after the World Cup where he spent time with his then-pregnant girlfriend.

The summer got even busier for the defender who welcomed a baby boy with his partner just after he resumed pre-season with Turkish club Bursaspor.

Leon Balogun

The defender spent most of his holidays in Germany before heading to England to prepare for his debut season in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Kenneth Omeruo

 

After his two-game appearance at the World Cup, Omeruo was on the Super Eagles flight to Nigeria before he jetted out to Dubai to complete his holidays. From there he travelled to London to resume preseason with his parent club, Chelsea.

Brian Idowu

With the World Cup in Russia, Idowu only made a short trip to his base where he enjoyed his break. He later completed a move to Lokomotiv Moscow.

Chidozie Awaziem

 

The central defender spent some time in Nigeria during his holidays before heading back to Portugal to resume preseason with his parent club, Porto. He was on the bench all through as Porto beat Aves to win the 2018 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (Portuguese Community Shield)

Shehu Abdullahi

The Super Eagles dfender spent all his summer in Nigeria after the World Cup. During his break in Nigeria, the defender/midfielder spent time engaging in some charity events in Sokoto.

Elderson Echiejile

The Super Eagles left-back spent a little time in Nigeria during his break before travelling to France to resume pre-season with his parent club Monaco.

Tyronne Ebuehi

Ebuehi made just one appearance at the World Cup and returned to the Netherlands immediately after the tournament.

After his break in Holland, he resumed pre-season with his new club Benfica. His summer ended in unfortunate circumstance as he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament which will make him miss almost one year of action.

Midfielders

Mikel John Obi

The Super Eagles captain spent little time in Russia with his in-laws before travelling back to his base in London.

It was from London he headed to China to resume with his club Tianjin TEDA.

Ogenyi Onazi

 

It was a disappointing World Cup for Onazi but the midfielder sought solace with his family, spending time with his wife and daughter in Nigeria before travelling back to Turkey to resume pre-season with Trabzonspor.

John Ogu

 

Ogu had a quiet World Cup but his summer was busy with a beehive of activities in Lagos. Nigeria where he spent the whole of his break.

While holidaying in Lagos, the midfielder hosted a house party at his mansion in Lekki. He has since joined up with his Hapoel Be'er Sheva teammates for the new season.

Wilfred Ndidi

 

Ndidi was one of the early departures from the Super Eagles hotel in Saint Petersburg after the 1-2 loss to Argentina.

The midfielder left the Super Eagles hotel with his girlfriend Chidinma and headed to England from where he made a trip to Nigeria for some engagements with his sponsors Coca-Cola before heading to Vilamoura, southern Portugal for vacation.

Oghenekaro Etebo

A private person, not much is known about how Etebo spent his post-World Cup break. The midfielder resumed pre-season very early at Stoke City.

Joel Obi

 

Obi was among the Super Eagles contingent that landed in Abuja from Russia and headed straight to his hometown. While at his hometown, the midfielder organised a local tournament for the youths and charity for the elderly.

He then jetted off to Italy to be with his family before resuming pre-season with Torino.

Forwards

Victor Moses

Moses left Super Eagles hotel immediately and returned to London to be with his family. He has since resumed pre-season with Chelsea.

Alex Iwobi

Iwobi left Russia for London immediately after the World Cup with his family before heading to Indonesia for his vacation.

 

He also had a short stay in Lagos for a commercial engagement with DSTV after signing with the Pay-TV company to become an ambassador.

He cut his holiday short by one week on the request of Arsenal manager Unai Emery to quickly resumed pre-season.

Ahmed Musa

 

Arrived in Nigeria with the Super Eagles and spent his break in Sokoto and Kano. he joined his good friend Abdullahi for the charity match in Sokoto and spent time with his family in Kano before resuming pre-season with Leicester City.

He has since left Leicester City for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

Kelechi Iheanacho

 

Arrived in Nigeria with the Super Eagles and headed straight to Owerri where he spent the whole of his break.

Iheanacho had a busy summer catching up with his friends. He also visited his former secondary school, Emmanuel College in Owerri.

Simy Nwankwo

Simy Nwankwo headed straight to Italy for his post-World Cup break and has since resumed pre-season with Crotone.
