Timeyin Amatossero-Keke: Covenant University graduate collapses and dies during a basketball game in US University
Timeyin graduated from Covenant University before he travelled to further his studies in the United States.
A Covenant University graduate Timeyin Amatossero-Keke has died after he collapsed while playing basketball on Monday, August 28 at Bluefield State College in the United States.
Timeyin, as he is called by friends graduated from Covenant University in Ogun State, Nigeria before he travelled to further his studies in the United States.
He was in his second year at the Bluefield State College, majoring in Engineering and Technology and had the highest GPA on the men's basketball team
According to school officials, the 25-year-old collapsed shortly after he finished playing the open gym basketball game.
He was retying his shoe when he suddenly collapsed. His teammates rushed him to Bluefield Regional Medical Center but all efforts to revive him failed.
"It is with a heavy heart this morning that we ask for prayers for our basketball and athletic family,” the University Men's Basketball Facebook page wrote.
“Last night we tragically lost one of our very own. Timeyin had a strong mind and just wanted a chance to play collegiate basketball.
“We ask that at this time you all keep his family and our student-athletes in your thoughts as we deal with this difficult time. Thank you."
The Athletic Director of the school John D. Lewis said the Nigerian student was a model student who ‘lead by example and made an impact on the Bluefield community, even though he lacked local routes’.
According to WVNSTV, Timeyin’s parents who live in Nigeria have been informed of his death.
