Atiku congratulates Special Eagles on win against El Salvador in Amputee World Cup

Atiku Abubakar took to his Twitter account to hail the Special Eagles for their accomplishment in Mexico.

Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the Special Eagles of Nigeria for beating El Salvador 1-0 to record the country’s first win at the Amputee World Cup.

The Special Eagles were victorious against El Salvador in their last group game of the tournament played on Wednesday, October 31st.

The team struggled to get finances to travel for the tournament and Atiku contributed a sum of N10m to their travel arrangements.

The team arrived Mexico in time for the the tournament but fell to a heavy 6-0 defeat by Brazil in their opener.

They were also unable to pick up any point in their second game as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to reigning world champions Russia.

They, however, were able to finish the tournament on a high with a slender 1-0 win over El Salvador in their last group game.

 

After their victory, Atiku took to his official Twitter account to heap praise on the Special Eagles for making the country proud.

He said, “I am super excited that Nigeria’s Special Eagles, against all odds, recorded their first victory in their maiden World Cup outing in Mexico.

“It is my hope that with greater support, they can only get better and soar like the Eagles they are.”

The team has finally achieved their aim of featuring at the world stage after missing out of the last three editions of the world cup due to financial issues.

After failing to progress from the group stage they are expected back in the country soon.
